Voice to Text in Notion: What Exists, What Never Did, What Works

Does Notion have voice to text?

No, not for typing directly into a page. As of today, Notion's own help center documents no way to place your cursor in a block, talk, and watch text appear. What Notion has added in 2026 is voice input for its AI Agent on desktop and voice dictation for messages in its iPhone Agents app, and neither one is page dictation.

Search Notion's help center for a dedicated dictation page and you find nothing: no button, no microphone icon, no voice-input setting described anywhere in its documentation for typing into a page. That silence is itself a source.

The closest thing Notion documents is voice input for its AI Agent. Per Notion's own release notes, published April 6, 2026: "Voice input for Notion AI is now on desktop. Whether you are dictating a longer prompt, or just prefer talking over typing, voice input makes it easier to get things done with your Agent," according to Notion's release notes. That is voice for a prompt you send to an AI Agent, not a microphone that types where your cursor sits in a page.

The second piece launched three months later, on mobile only. Notion's help center for its iPhone app lists "Voice dictation: Use voice input to send messages" as a capability of the Notion Agents app for iPhone, which requires iOS 26 or later. That page also states plainly that "iPad and Android support are not yet available." Again, this sends a spoken chat message to the Agent, not text into a page.

A third feature gets confused with dictation too: Notion's AI Meeting Notes. Typing /meet in a page starts a recording that Notion "transcribes" and summarizes with action items, per Notion's own help page. That is transcription of a meeting or an uploaded recording, not dictation of your own live typing, and it requires Notion's Business or Enterprise plan. It is not available on Free or Plus.

What is the "native Notion dictation" feature some guides describe?

It does not exist as described. One guide that ranks near the top of search results for this exact query describes a built-in Notion dictation feature: available on Notion's paid plans, started with a microphone icon or a Cmd/Ctrl+O shortcut, offered in a choice of 16 languages, and stopped with a red button. Notion's own help center never documents any of this, and three other guides covering the same question say Notion has no dictation feature at all.

The 16-languages detail is the tell. That guide's claimed language count matches, number for number, the 16 languages Notion documents for AI Meeting Notes transcription: English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Dutch, and Swedish. The likely explanation is a mix-up: someone found the Meeting Notes language list, attached it to a page-dictation feature Notion never built, and the result now ranks for a question thousands of people search every month.

Rival guides on the same topic contradict it directly. One states: "No. The desktop and web versions of Notion have no dictation button, no microphone icon, and no voice input setting." Another says essentially the same thing: "No, Notion currently does not have any feature to automatically convert speech to text." A third, written by a developer who documented his own Notion voice-typing setup, agrees: "Notion doesn't have good voice typing. Their AI features can generate content, but there's no way to just talk and have your words appear in a Notion page."

None of these guides, including the ones that get the "no dictation" answer right, cites Notion's April 2026 release note about Agent voice input. That is the freshness gap this page closes: Notion has genuinely added voice features in 2026, just not the one most guides are describing or denying.

Did Notion remove dictation?

No removal is on record. No official Notion source, past or present, describes a page-dictation feature that Notion later took away. The "it disappeared" feeling almost always traces back to one of two mix-ups.

The first is operating-system dictation getting misattributed to Notion itself. One widely shared blog post from an iPad user described a mic icon, a processing indicator, and a language picker showing up "at the bottom if you have multiple languages on your iPad" while using Notion, and credited Notion with adding the feature. That description matches iPadOS's own keyboard dictation appearing inside any text field, Notion included, not a feature Notion built. When an OS update, a keyboard change, or a settings toggle removes that mic key, the "Notion dictation" looks like it vanished, even though Notion never touched it.

The second is confusion with the 2026 AI Agent voice input covered above. People hear that Notion "added voice" and go looking for a microphone inside a page. They find one only in Agent chat, conclude the feature they expected must have been removed, and never find it because it was never a page-dictation feature in the first place.

No user reports of a genuinely removed dictation button surfaced in researching this page. If Notion ever ships real page dictation, this page will be the first place we update.

How do you actually get voice to text into Notion?

Three approaches work today, in order of setup effort: your operating system's built-in dictation, a system-wide dictation tool, and recording separately, then pasting the result in.

Use your operating system's built-in dictation

Every major OS ships free dictation that works inside any text field, Notion included, because it operates at the keyboard level rather than inside any one app. On a Mac, turn on Dictation in System Settings and start it with Edit > Start Dictation or a shortcut like Option-Z; our Mac dictation guide covers the setup and debunks the 30-second myth (it is a silence cutoff, not a length limit).

On Windows 11, press Windows key+H inside any Notion text box to open voice typing, though it needs an internet connection since it runs on Azure Speech; see our Windows voice typing guide for the setup and its known quirks. On iPhone and Android, the microphone key on the on-screen keyboard dictates into the Notion mobile app the same way it does into Messages or any other app.

Add a system-wide dictation tool

A dedicated dictation app sits above the OS layer and works the same way in Notion as it does everywhere else on your device. Record, organize, then paste

For an existing meeting recording, Notion's own AI Meeting Notes can transcribe it directly inside a page: type /meet to record live, or upload a file in AAC, M4A, MP3, or WAV (MOV, MP4, and Loom files are not supported). It requires Notion's Business or Enterprise plan and needs at least a minute of speech before it will summarize anything.
